Must have wideband to self tune with Apexi or else your just tuning in the dark. I'm running Nistune now though and basically only using my Apexi to watch Knock and combine my MAF signals. An Apexi manipulates the MAF sigal, which is an engine load calculation in the ECU. If you withdraw fuel with an apexi it withdraws load signal from the ECU with makes the ECU think it can advance timing. If you withdraw loads of fuel you timing will creep up a little. Which makes you have to turn back you timing or lower the boost. Nistune will allow you to change AFR without having a slight timing affect that the apexi has. I'll data log next chance I get and see if i can learn more about the input output voltages off idle.
